MY
TAEKWONDO JOURNEY

By

Ever
since I was 6 ½ years old, I’ve been doing a sport called Tae Kwon Do.  My
grandfather is a Tae Kwon Do grand master. When he moved to California, he
began teaching us the basics. They are punches, kicks, blocks, stances, and
poomsae.

After 3
½ years of hard work, sweat and competitions, I finally got my black belt at 10
years old. It was an amazing accomplishment for me.

This
journey to getting a black belt has taught me many important life values. It
helped me gain confidence knowing that now I can fight off strangers and
robbers. This confidence also applies to not being so nervous during stressful
events such as competitions and recitals. Tae Kwon Do also taught me
respectfulness such as when I have to bow and say "Yes sir." This
encourages me to be more respectful at home and school. Tae Kwon Do
strengthened my focus too. Focusing is important in order to stay on track
while doing form. Learning to be focused also helps me concentrate and try my
best in school. Lastly, Tae Kwon Do helped me be a better leader. Since I have
a younger sister and cousins, I want to help them get their black belts.

Tae
Kwon Do didn’t just help me become a better person. It also helped me
physically. I have become more flexible and strong. I have better coordination
and better balance. Tae Kwon Do is also good exercise and self-defense. Yet I
couldn’t have done any of this without the help of one person.

        My grandfather is a
great Tae Kwon Do teacher. It is a rare and special opportunity and I get to
know him better. I feel closer to him now and I would love to thank him for
everything that he taught me.
