Founder
of Yu’s Academy   

The motto of Yu’s Academy is Sound
Mind in a Sound Body.

The Purpose of the Academy is
to build a strong foundation based on courtesy, integrity, discipline, and
respect.  Grand Master Yu left his homeland of Korea with a great dream to
teach martial arts in America. He started teaching at Missouri Western State
University in 1974 and went on to establish Yu’s Academy.

Grand Master Yu was the
manager and coach of the USA Tae KwonDo
team for the 1978 Pan American Games in Mexico City, Mexico. He also serves as
an international referee.

He established the Mid-America
Tae Kwon Do Association and World Hap Ki Do Association. He is also the
chairman of the board of examiners and serves as a technical advisor of Judo,
Tae Kwon Do, and Hap Ki Do in the United States.

Grand Master Yu founded his
own Modern US Hap Ki Do system and techniques based on ancient Korean mudo.
He has over 50 years’ experience in the martial arts.

In the United
States, Grand Master Yu received a bachelor’s degree in education at Missouri
Western State University in 1977. Grand Master Yu places much emphasis on
education. His son Dale, a 5th dan instructor graduated from Stanford
University. Now, he is an Interventional Cardiologist. His daughter Jeangraduated
from Harvard University and is also a 4^th dan degree black belt instructor.
His wife graduated from Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, Korea.  She is a
social worker for the state of Missouri.
