인생을살아가는데에는두가지길이있다.
1.
인생에어떠한기적(奇蹟)도없다며살아가는인생길이있으며,
2.
그모든것이기적이라고생각하며살아가는인생길도있다.
There are two ways to live :
you can live as if nothing is a miracle (or),
you can live as if everything is a miracle.
2.나에게는자연의기본적원리(原理)를발견하고자할때
어떠한논리적(論理的)인방법으로한것이결코아니다.
내가진리(眞理)를발견하는것 오직직관(直觀)에의한것이다.
사물의겉모습뒤에있는질서(본질?)에서
무언가전해져오는감각, 즉직관(直觀)에의해서다.
There is no logical way to the discovery of these
elemental laws.
There isonly the way of intuition,which is helped by a feeling
for the order lying behind the appearance.
3.창조적인예술가의특질이랄까,
도저히저항할수없는충동(衝動)으로진정한예술(藝術)은탄생한다.
True art is characterized by an irresistible urgein the creative artist.
4.진정한종교는현실(現實)의삶이다.
모든인간영혼(靈魂)의선량(善良)함과올바름과함께하는것이다.
True religion is real living: living with all one’s soul,
with all one’s
goodness and righteousness.
5.성공(成功)한사람이되기위해노력하기보다는,
가치(價値)있는사람이되기위해노력하라.
Try not to become a man of success,
but rather try to become a man of value.
6.새로운문제, 새로운가능성(해답)을찾아내기위해서는,
새로운관점으로오래된문제를바라보는태도가필요하다.
그리하여창조적인상상력으로진정한과학적진보를이룬다.
To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old
problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and
marks real advance in
science.
7. (성공하려면) 먼저그게임의규칙(規則)을배워야한다.
그다음어느누구보다그놀이에몰입(沒入)하여놀이자체를즐겨야한다.
You have to learn the rules of the game,
And then you have to play better than anyone else.
8. 세계는살아가기에위험한곳이다. 사악한사람들때문이아니라,
악(惡)에대해아무런행동도취하지않는사람들때문이다.
The world is a dangerous place to live :
not because of the people who are evil,
but because of the people who don’t do
anything about it.
9.마음(직관)이지식(知識)보다더높은경지일때가있다.
그러나그게어떻게그렇게되었는지를증명할수는없다.
(마음, 즉직관(直觀)의천재(天才)성을갈파한말)
There comes time when the mind takes a higher plane
of knowledge but can never prove how it
got there.
10.나자신과내생각의체계에대해엄밀히살펴볼때면,
나에게는그어떤추상(抽象)하는재능이나적극적(積極的)생각보다도
타고난상상력(想像力)이더큰의미가있었다는결론에도달하게된다.
When I examine myself and my methods of thought,
I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has
meant more to me than any talent for abstract, positive thinking.
11. 누구나진리(眞理)와지식(知識)의심판관으로자기자신을내세우지만,
그확신은신(神)의웃음소리에의해난파(難破)된다.
Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth
and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the
laughter of gods.
12.두가지만이무한하다. 우주(宇宙)와인간(人間)의어리석음이다.
그러나우주의무한함에는확신하지는못한다.
Two things are infinite : the universe and human
stupidity,
and I am not sure about universe.
13.사물들은가능한한단순하게구성된다.
그이상단순할수가없다 (사물의본질이가장단순).
Things should be made as simple as possible, but not any
simpler.
14. 우리는문제를생각해냈을때의구태의연한생각으로는그문제를풀수가없다.
We can’t solve our problems by using the same kind of
thinking
we used when we created them.
15. 인류가계속해서살아남기위해서는상당한새로운사고방식이요구된다.
We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking
if mankind is to survive.
16. 예쁜소녀와연애하고있을때에는 1시간이마치 1초처럼흘러간다.
뜨거운숯불위에앉아있을때에는 1초가마치 1시간처럼흘러간다.
그것이상대성(相對性) 이론이다.
When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like
second, when you sit on
a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour.
That is Relativity.
17. 우리라는존재가인간이기때문에우리는인간성에대해절망할수는없다.
We cannot despair about humanity,since we ourselves are human beings.
18. 우리는아직도자연이우리에게보여주는모습의 1000분의 1도모르고있다.
We still do not know one thousandth of one percent of
what nature has
revealed to us.
19. 나는상상력을자유롭게끌어내는예술가일게다.
상상력(想像力)은지식(知識)보다중요(重要)하다.
지식은제한(制限)되고갇혀있지만, 상상력은온천지를날아다닌다.
I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my
imagination,
imagination is more important than knowledge,
Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.
20. 오직유일한소중한가치(價値)가있는능력은직관(直觀)이다.
The only real valuable thing is intuition.
21.나는특별한재능(才能)을갖고있지않다.
나는오직열정(熱情)으로가득찬호기심(好奇心)을갖고있을뿐이다.
I have no special talent, I am only passionately curious.
22. 당신이더빨리가려할수록, 당신은더짧은시간밖에누리지못한다.
The faster you go, the shorter you are.
23. 만유인력은사랑에빠진인간은책임지지않는다.
(어느한군데만맹신하는인간, 그런인간은어떻게해볼수가없다는조롱이다)
Gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love.
24. 시간(時間)에대한단한가지진리(眞理)가있다면,
그어떤것이든갑자기생겨나지는않는다는것이다.
The only reason for time is so that everythingdoesn’t happen at once.
25.어제에서배우며, 오늘을살며, 내일의희망을갖는다.
중요한것은늘의문(疑問)을갖는일이다.
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.
The important thing is not to stop questioning.
26. 실수를한번도하지않은사람이란
그어떤새로운시도(試圖)도하지않았던사람이다.
A person who never made a mistake never
tried anything new.
27. 우리의임무는모든살아있는생명체들,
자연과자연의아름다움과함께하는이해의범위를넓혀나가면서
우리자신을자유롭게하는일이다.
Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle
of compassion to embrace all living creatures
and the whole of nature and its beauty.
